A49 CYCLOPS Signal Junction

“Supporting growth and safety in transportation”

The existing Smithy Brook Road Junction was to become a major intersection and the convergence point between the new A49 / M58 link road projects. A combination of Growth Deal and Mayor’s Challenge funding was allocated towards improvements at the junction.

The existing signal facilities were upgraded to support quicker connections between the east and west of the borough, accommodate increased traffic flows through the junction and provide safer and separate facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.

Wilde Consulting Engineers were appointed to work in close collaboration with Wigan Council’s Major Project delivery team. We provided design and contract support to develop the proposals and assist in preparing the project for the construction phase.
