About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Graduate Civil Engineer to join our Stockport Civils and Infrastructure team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to develop their career within a busy civil engineering consultancy, with the opportunity to gain experience across a range of infrastructure projects in drainage, highways, development and rail.

You will work closely with experienced engineers and technicians, supporting the preparation and delivery of civil engineering designs and developing your technical knowledge through hands-on project experience. We are particularly interested in graduates with a genuine interest in infrastructure projects including drainage, highway development and rail who are keen to build a career in this area.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to projects from initial feasibility and concept stages through to detailed design, gaining exposure to a broad range of civil engineering and developing towards professional qualification.

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting with the preparation of civil engineering designs, drawings and supporting technical information.
  • Assisting with the design and delivery of civil infrastructure schemes including drainage, highways, development and rail projects.
  • Assisting with hydraulic assessments, including surface water drainage calculations and drainage modelling where appropriate.
  • Producing and amending technical drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Supporting engineers with calculations, technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
  • Preparing drawings and documentation in accordance with client requirements, relevant standards and adoptable standards, including Section 278/38, S104 and S106 agreements where applicable.
  • Developing an understanding of relevant Eurocodes, British Standards as well as UK drainage standards and design guidance.
  • Assisting with site visits, surveys and inspections where required.
  • Liaising with engineers, technicians and other members of the project team to help ensure coordinated design information.
  • Supporting the team in responding to technical queries during design and construction.
  • Developing technical knowledge and contributing to the continued improvement of design processes and best practice.

Qualifications and experience

  • ICE-accredited Degree in Civil Engineering
  • A genuine interest in civil infrastructure projects including drainage, highways, development and rail.
  • An interest in developing a career within civil engineering consultancy.
  • Some experience of AutoCAD would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Civil 3D would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • A basic understanding of UK civil engineering standards and design practices would be advantageous.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach with a willingness to learn, develop and take on new challenges.
  • Strong attention to detail and an interest in producing high-quality technical work.
