About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Engineer / Senior Civil Engineering Technician to join our Stockport Civils and Infrastructure team.

Depending on your experience and qualifications, you will support the delivery of civil engineering projects through the preparation of technical designs, drawings and supporting information. Working closely with experienced engineers and technicians, you will contribute to the development of practical, buildable and sustainable engineering solutions across a wide range of infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will play an important role in delivering high-quality design work, ensuring outputs are accurate, coordinated and compliant with relevant standards and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Producing accurate and coordinated technical drawings and civil engineering design information using AutoCAD.
  • Assisting with the design and delivery of highway drainage, earthworks and general civil infrastructure schemes.
  • Supporting engineers in the preparation of calculations, technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
  • Assisting in the development and refinement of infrastructure designs from concept through to detailed design.
  • Preparing and reviewing drawings and documentation to ensure compliance with client requirements, statutory authority standards and adoptable standards (including Section 278/38, S104 and S106 agreements where applicable).
  • Maintaining drawing standards, CAD consistency and quality control across project deliverables.
  • Liaising with engineers, technicians, clients and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated design information.
  • Assisting with site visits, surveys and inspections where required.
  • Supporting project delivery by helping to manage design programmes and responding to technical queries during design and construction.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement within the team by sharing knowledge and promoting best practice.

Qualifications and experience

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (essential).
  • Experience using Civil 3D would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Strong practical industry experience may be accepted in place of formal qualifications.
  • Broad understanding of UK civil engineering standards and design practices, including highways and drainage guidance, is desirable.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop professionally.
