We are seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer to support a busy highway and rail structures team in West Yorkshire.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the bridge inspection schemes for highway and railway bridges.
  • Checking Inspection reports to make sure they accurately represent the conditions of the structures.
  • Filing reports and inputting all relevant details in the bridge management data base.
  • Preparing structural reviews for bridges and other structures for future inspections.
  • Compiling requirements for upcoming inspections.
  • Preparing tender documents for the procurement of inspections.
  • Compiling schemes for maintenance, upgrade and refurbishment of assets. The work will include designs, drawings, detailing, specifications, procurement and overseeing site work. The engineer will also oversee the role of Designer under CDM.
  • Preparing tender documents for the procurement of inspections, maintenance schemes, strengthening works and bridge assessments.
  • Undertaking feasibility studies and report on findings.
  • Reviewing designs and assessments on behalf of the TAA.
  • Reviewing schemes from planners and developers (i.e. Section 38 and 278 schemes) for TAA approval.
  • Carrying out principal, general and special inspections of bridges and structures.
  • Assisting in managing queries from the public and other stake holders.

The suitable candidate will have the following:

  • At least 5 years post graduate experience working with structures of which at least 3 should have been with bridges.
  • Experience with DMRB design and assessment codes and with other British Standards.
  • Knowledge of the MCHW and other supporting standards.
  • Experience with bridge inspections, especially principal inspections.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Capability of working outdoors, nights, at height and above water
  • Chartered and Incorporated statuses are desirable
