Start your career in civil engineering with Wilde Consultants Ltd
At Wilde Consultants Ltd, we design the roads, town centres and infrastructure that keep places moving. Founded in 1980, we are an award-winning, family-run consultancy and one of the largest independently owned engineering consultancies in the UK, with our head office in Stockport.
This Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship is aimed at Year 11 school leavers who are thinking about what comes next and want a practical, long-term route into civil engineering. It combines college study with real work experience, allowing you to earn from day one while developing skills that are used on live highways and infrastructure projects.
Applications are made through the official GOV.UK apprenticeship service using the link below.
Apply for the Civil Engineering Technician Apprentice (Level 3)
What is an apprenticeship?
This apprenticeship is designed to blend college, work and real projects, so learning is immediately put into practice.
You’ll study for a BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering on a day-release basis with Salford City College, based at their Future Skills site at MediaCity, Salford. This is a modern training environment focused on technical and professional education.
Alongside college, you’ll spend the rest of the week working with our highways and transportation team in Stockport. Outside of term time, you’ll work full-time in the office, gaining experience across a range of live projects.
Over the course of the apprenticeship, you’ll build the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to become a qualified Civil Engineering Technician, supported throughout by experienced engineers and technicians.
What kind of work will you be involved in?
As part of a professional design consultancy, your work will be varied and practical – you’ll be learning how real schemes are developed from concept through to delivery.
Typical activities include:
- supporting the production of engineering drawings using CAD software
- helping with site surveys, inspections and data collection
- assisting engineers with technical and work information
- learning how highways and infrastructure schemes are designed safely and sustainable
- your responsibilities will increase as your confidence and technical ability develop
Why choose an apprenticeship instead of sixth form?
An apprenticeship offers a different route into further education and employment. Instead of studying full-time, you combine learning with paid work in a professional environment.
With this apprenticeship, you will:
- earn a salary from day one
- avoid student loans and tuition fees
- gain a recognised Level 3 qualification (equivalent to A-levels)
- build real world workplace experience alongside your studies
- for many people, this is a more practical and focussed way to start a career
Why choose Wilde Consultants Ltd?
We’re proud of the way we support and develop apprentices. As a family-run business, we take a personal approach and invest time in helping people grow.
At Wilde Consultants Ltd, you’ll benefit from:
- working locally from our Stockport head office
- being part of a supportive, close-knit team
- structured mentoring and on-the-job training
- exposure to real highways and infrastructure projects
- We were also recognised as Small Employer of the Year 2025 at the Salford City College Apprenticeship Awards, reflecting our commitment to apprenticeships and skills development.
Where can this lead?
On successful completion, you’ll be qualified as a Civil Engineering Technician. Many apprentices go on to progress into permanent technician roles, continue their professional development, and work towards Engineering Technician (EngTech) status. Further training or higher-level apprenticeships may also be available in the future.
