Opportunity: Principal Traffic Engineer (part-time)

We are seeking two experienced Principal Traffic Engineersto lead on the technical delivery/approval of highway design and traffic engineering projects in Manchester.

Responsibilities:

  • Parking restrictions, movement orders, traffic management schemes ensuring compliance with current design guidance and legislation.
  • Support the Team Leader in the management of the Engineering Design Team ensuring that complex and innovative technical solutions are delivered in line with customer and legislative requirements.  
  • Work to Client brief in the management of a portfolio of Minor highway design projects and traffic engineering schemes associated with S278/38 agreements.  
  • Undertake and support feasibility studies, consultations and surveys, when required.  
  • Lead on project communication with all stakeholders including residents, businesses, TfGM and elected members throughout the duration of the scheme. This includes answering stakeholder enquiries and organizing consultation events.  
  • Manage the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process from inception to completion (prepare approval reports, consultation, liaison with legal services to check drafted legal schedules, plans and orders and implementation) 
  • Produce technical drawings, approval reports, TRO schedules and robust management of scheme documents.  
  • Work with other sections and developers to ensure a joined-up approach to traffic management across the city.  
  • Budget and project management of schemes along with having financial and procurement accountability for projects.  
  • Comply with CDM requirements and Health and Safety legislation. 

  

Qualifications and Certificates:

Essential

  • An engineering degree or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification.
  • 10 years’ relevant post-graduate experience of Traffic Engineering
  • Strong evaluation and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of CDM and Health and Safety requirements
  • Full UK Driving Licence and be able to attend sites in the NW&C region,
  • An excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Excellent Report writing skills.
  • Client liaison skills
  • Be able to liaise with our internal Contractor
  • Be able to manage, mentor and develop Assistant Engineers and Draughtsmen
  • Good attitude

Desirable

· CEng or IEng in a relevant engineering professional institution.
