Principal Bridge Engineer

A vacancy exists for a Principal Bridge Engineer to work on varied and challenging highway structures and rail projects for public and private sector clients.

The Principal Bridge Engineer role requires a ‘hands on’ approach and the application of professional engineering knowledge and skills to the direction of projects. Excellent career prospects are available for the right candidate.

Duties will involve; Providing support to Junior team members, offering technical and project management guidance. Reviewing and checking designs to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
Preparation of feasibility studies and prepare detailed design calculations (proficiency in Eurocodes is essential).
Carrying out bridge inspections and assessments (knowledge of the DMRB is required) Preparation of contract documents and technical specifications.
Supervise contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Manage projects, including planning, execution, and client interactions.

Specific objectives include:

  • To provide high level technical services.
  • To provide support, training and guidance to other staff.
  • To develop and retain specialist knowledge.
  • Reporting to the Bridges director and managing graduates/junior members of staff.

Chartered is essential along with experience of working in a bridges/highway structures design consultancy office, typically with at least 10 years practical design experience.
