Duration: Full-time from late July 2024 until March 2025. From April to September 2025, the role will be three days per week.

We are seeking an experienced NEC4 Project Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the NEC4 ECC Project Manager for three key projects, from construction to handover.
  • Working closely with the Client Project Manager and embedded within the Stockport team.
  • Managing project progress and cost reporting internally and externally.
  • Building strong relationships with the Client Project Manager, SMBC Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, framework contractors, consultant partners, and the programme’s Senior Responsible Owner and Head of Capital Delivery.

Primary Functions:

  • Undertake NEC4 Project Manager duties per the NEC4 Engineering & Construction Contract.
  • Support the Lead Designer in preparing the ECC, ensuring all project specifics are accurately captured.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with the Client’s requirements, procedures, and quality processes.
  • Observe on-site health and safety aspects and report key H&S risks or areas for improvement.
  • Attend meetings as requested by the Project Manager.
  • Ensure full compliance with NEC4 contract terms and conditions.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including resource allocation, schedule management, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment among project teams and stakeholders.
  • Support the Client PM and Quantity Surveyors in managing project finances, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations.
  • Act as the first point of contact for any on-site accidents or incidents and coordinate responses.
  • Support the Client PM in assessing the potential impact of stakeholder-led changes before they are instructed.

Essential Experience:

  • Minimum five years’ experience as an NEC PM administering NEC ECC forms of contract.
  • Experience with local authority schemes in Greater Manchester.
  • Experience with highways, transportation infrastructure projects, including walk/cycle schemes.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, with construction values ranging from £100k to £5m.
  • Supervising contractors on site and verifying valuations for completed works.
  • Working with site supervisors to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Collaborating effectively with local authorities to ensure high standards in project delivery.
  • Delivering cycle infrastructure or active travel schemes within tight deadlines and budgets.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Exceptional communication skills to foster a collaborative environment and manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Proficiency in project and financial management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the NEC4 framework.
  • Knowledge of CDM, health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Relevant NEC contract and/or professional qualifications (advantageous).
  • Driving Licence.
  • Appropriate level of CSCS Card or NEBOSH.

Additional Information:

  • The role may involve ad-hoc evening or weekend work or extended working days to support the construction programmes.
