Wilde welcomes the publication of the updated PAS 2080, outlining the roles and responsibilities of all value chain members in managing carbon in buildings and infrastructure.
All stakeholders working within the built environment sector have a duty to consider the environmental impact of their projects. Reducing carbon is a key consideration in all our projects. By undertaking carbon calculations throughout the design process we can identify lower carbon solutions for each scheme and consider this alongside the associated cost and programme when making design decisions. This encourages us to reconsider the “business-as-usual” approach to projects, investigate innovative solutions, and work with our clients to produce designs that are affordable, buildable, and sustainable.
As a designer, we have developed the Wilde Carbon Reduction Charter to minimise the environmental impact of our projects:
The Wilde Carbon Reduction Charter:
- Carbon Reduction Group: A working group dedicated to sharing best practices and driving carbon reduction within our designs, and developing staff members to adapt to rapidly changing requirements and new techniques.
- Integrate Whole Life Carbon Reduction: We identify opportunities to reduce whole life carbon of assets throughout the project life cycle, from project feasibility stage to construction.
- Early Involvement: We can assist at an early stage in the project life cycle to develop solutions to the brief whilst working towards net zero objectives.
- Re-use Potential: We identify opportunities for re-use or refurbishment of existing assets and the effect on whole-life carbon.
- Carbon Assessment: We undertake embodied carbon assessments to quantify carbon in our designs and drive continuous improvement.
