Retaining wall replacement with reinforced concrete mass wall
Main Services:
- The refurbishment of Cross Street Retaining wall comprised masonry works and the construction of a reinforced concrete gravity retaining wall. The different trades required for the various elements of the project allowed the scheme to be undertaken in two phases allowing the funding to be managed more accurately and provide best value for the council.
- Phase 1 included taking down of a dry stone masonry retaining wall over a car park area which was showing signs of instability. The wall was rebuilt with no fines concrete placed as backfill and tied into the rock outcrop behind.
- Phase 2 comprised the construction of a reinforced concrete gravity wall which supports parkland over the highway. The proposals for the scheme were agreed with the District Assembly due to the impact on the parkland retained by the wall.
