Retaining wall replacement with mass concrete wall
Main Services:
- Stockport Road retaining wall supports the highway over private grazing land to the north of Mossley. The masonry wall was in poor condition and in need of replacement. A mass concrete gravity retaining wall was chosen as the most cost effective viable solution.
- Due to the retained height of the wall the works required a full road closure to be in place the timing of which had to be agreed and coordinated with Oldham Council due to the close proximity of ongoing retaining wall works in the Oldham area.
- The wall was designed to best match the existing wall by reusing the existing masonry as cladding to the mass concrete wall. The masonry used in the parapet was agreed in consultation with the adjacent property owners.
- Significant back of wall drainage was installed due to extensive springs and ground water in the area.
