This new combined heat and power building covers an area of 325m2 and provides heating to the entire hospital complex as well as the facility to generate electricity from waste heat.
WildeConsutling Engineers provided design services including the design of the steel portal frame structure, large scale reinforced concrete foundations for the 27m tall chimney and auxiliary diesel tanks. The diesel tank foundations were designed with an integral reinforced concrete bund arrangement to comply with EA guidelines.
In addition a complex slab was designed to cater for the high loads from the boiler units as well as an extensive system of ducting with isolation joints to reduce the effect of generator-induced vibration on the building structure.
