Trainee Engineer Scheme
Throughout the past ten years Wilde Consulting Engineers have offered a work and educational based training scheme providing candidates with enthusiasm for the built environment, the ideal start to a career in civil and structural engineering.
The scheme provides the opportunity to gain valuable experience through working alongside our existing team of ‘time served’ engineers and technicians. Knowledge and skills gained from the office are used to support ongoing educational training and career development.
During academic term time the candidate studies towards an engineering qualification through enrolment on a day release course at a local college or The University of Bolton. The initial starting course is dependant on the candidates past experience and academic qualifications.
A typical route of study would commence with a HNC in Civil Engineering at Bolton University (2 years duration). Achieving an acceptable standard on this course will allow progression to the full BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering degree at Bolton (3 years duration).
Typical office based duties include: -
• Learning to use AutoCAD to detail the design for buildings, structures and roads
• Preparing drawings for engineers schemes
• Taking part in site surveys
• Other related office administration tasks
In addition to the above, the candidate will benefit form earning a salary whilst studying, along with full financial academic sponsorship, an advantageous alternative to taking out student loans to cover expensive course fees, as typically done so by full time degree students today.
The scheme and company is recognised as part of the Institution of Civil Engineer’s Approved Training Schemes and the List of Approved Employers.
Candidate criteria
To be considered for trainee engineer scheme good GCSE grades are essential with at least a B in Maths specifically. In addition to school qualifications the candidate must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the built environment and engineering.
Local candidates living in the Stockport area are considered with favour in view of a company policy to limit the impact WCE has on the environment. A candidate with good knowledge of the local area will also bring value to the many local projects WCE are involved with.
